Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy will run as an independent Senatorial candidate in the 2025 elections.
In a letter received by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Monday, October 21, Quiboloy cancelled his Certificate of Nomination under the Workers' and Peasants' Party (WPP).
Atty. Mark Tolentino, legal counsel of Quiboloy, said that the religious decided to revoke his acceptance of the Certificate of Nomination in order to avoid any intra-party dispute.
"Ni-revoke niya ang acceptance on the ground na ayaw niya ma-involve sa any intra-party disputes," Tolentino told reporters.
Atty. Sonny Matula, Senatorial aspirant at national president of the Federation of Free Workers, filed a petition last Wednesday, October 16, at COMELEC seeking to cancel the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) of Quiboloy due to 'material representation'.
Matula insists that the WPP did not nominate Quiboloy.
The labor leader said that none of the authorized members of the WPP signed the CONA of Quiboloy, and Tolentino, who signed the document, has been inactive from the party.
Both Matula and Tolentino claim to be the president of the WPP.
Quiboloy, who remains detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, faces charges for human trafficking and child sexual abuse.
