The Philippine National Police (PNP) investigates the so-called 'Angels of Death' of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), which are allegedly used to intimidate victims of abuse by religious leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
This follows the revelation by Davao City Police Chief Col. Hansel Marantan in an interview with DZRH that the religious organization appears to have a private armed group composed of former security sector members.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP Spokesperson PCol. Jean Fajardo stated that the investigation is focused on allegations that the 'Angels of Death' are silencing those who reveal the Pastor's secrets.
"Yung focus ng ating investigation ngayon ay based doon sa mga revelations ng mga bata including [kung] ‘yung talagang mga angels of death ay talagang mga goons ‘yan or just a figurative speech para lang takutin ang mga bata," Fajardo said.
However, in a separate ambush interview at Camp Crame, one of Quiboloy’s legal counsel, Atty. Mark Tolentino, mentioned that the Pastor does not have a private army and that the KOJC does not have individuals acting as its own police force.
“Nakita niyo naman 5,000 pulis ang pumunta sa KOJC. Anong ginawa ng mga members? Nagdasal. Kumakanta ng mga kanta ng Panginoong Diyos," said Tolentino.
Tolentino said that the operation at KOJC compound in Davao serves as proof, showing that the sect members engaged only in prayer and singing.
