The House Quad Committee confirmed that former Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) general manager Royina Garma is currently admitted to the hospital due to health concerns.
Manila 6th District Rep. Bienvenido Abante Jr. said that they approved Garma’s request as she needed immediate medical attention. In the past, the former PSCO chief complained of experiencing back and neck pain. Due to this, she requested a medical check-up on October 22.
Her first medical request was turned down by the Committee as they had scheduled a hearing that required her presence. However, Laguna Rep. Dan Fernandez said that Garma complained about experiencing pain in her back and neck again. That was when they approved of the request, and scheduled her appointment last Sunday, October 27.
Abante later confirmed that Garma is currently admitted at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan, Manila.
Moreover, Fernandez noted that Garma informed them that the latter had difficulty swallowing. Garma wanted to schedule a doctor’s appointment as she has a family history of esophageal cancer—a type of disease that targets the esophagus area. Common symptoms include weight loss and painful or difficulty swallowing.
On Monday, October 28, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee commenced the hearing on former President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs. Garma was absent during the said hearing due to health concerns.
The next Quad Committee hearing will be held on November, after All Saints Day.
