Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III on Wednesday announced his decision to resign from his position amidst ongoing investigation into the viral road rage incident.
In an interview with Anthony Taberna and Gerry Baja during DZRH’s Dos Por Dos, Torre said he asked to be relieved as QCPD director to ensure an impartial investigation.
"Today, allow me to relieve myself of this position as the director of Quezon City para mabigyan ng pagkakataon ang partial investigation without any cloud na ako ay nag-impluwensya [sa imbestigasyon]," he announced.
"Narealize ko na nandito yung sentro ng init sa akin ngayon sa nangyari, the way I handle the initial yun nga yung presscon, and all other subsequent exchanges of words and interviews," Torre added.
The QCDP chief said he asked the approval of his superiors to leave the position.
Torre said that his primary goal is have a proper investigation regarding the case without any "cloud of doubt" to any Philippine National Police (PNP) member.
"Hindi ko kaya 'yun, na idamay ang aking mga kasamahan dito, especially that I am the commander. Especially that I am the head of QCPD, and it's not very good to see ako'y nandito, kini-criticize, at patuloy na kami pa rin ang nagdadala ng imbestigasyon na ito," he explained.
Torre said his resignation would be effective immediately.
Moreover, he said that he would ask for enough time to clear his office and quarters for the next appointed QCPD director.
It can be recalled that the QCPD conducted a press conference wherein they gave retired QCPD police Wilfredo 'Willy' Gonzalez a chance to explain his side after assaulting and brandishing a gun at a cyclist near Welcome Rotanda in Quezon City last August 8.
This drew negative comments from netizens, even from Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
