Representative Bong Suntay of Quezon City apologized on Thursday after drawing criticism for comments he made about actress Anne Curtis, admitting that his choice of example was inappropriate.

Suntay said the remark, which he made during congressional discussions, unintentionally offended women.

He explained that the controversy drew media attention away from his participation in the House Justice Committee hearings on the impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“I regret na may nasaktan, but I won't regret making that analogy kasi ngayon napansin niyo ang statement ko na dapat ang mga member ng committee should remain impartial and that kung anong batayan na ginamit in disposing the impeachment complaint against the President should also be used for the Vice President,” Suntay said.

He also stressed that while he was not being interviewed during other points of the hearing, the media focused on his Anne Curtis comment. “In a way, if you want to drive a point, you need to take a hit. And this is my hit,” he said.

Meanwhile, the House Justice Committee continues to deliberate on the fourth impeachment complaint against Vice President Duterte, which was endorsed by Manila Representative Bienvenido "Benny" Abante and House Deputy Speaker Paolo Ortega V.

The hearing is part of ongoing efforts to examine the legality and validity of complaints filed against the Vice President.
