An animal advocate was shocked after witnessing a cat eating its fellow cat inside a cage in an animal shelter in Brgy. San Jose Das Mariñas, Cavite, which went viral on social media.

Interviewed on Dos Por Dos, video uploader and animal advocate Yvette Mayo said she went to the barangay's animal shelter to feed the cats there but was shocked to see dead cats that were allegedly eaten by the same cat.

Kinain na nila yung mga kapwa pusa nila," she said.

Mayo said she immediately asked the barangay for assistance in cleaning the shelter and bringing the cats to the veterinary center so they could be treated for the virus they contracted.

The animal advocate claimed that Jeffry Frani, the barangay captain who ordered the cats to be collected from the streets, agreed to her request to rescue the cats. However, when she came back to the shelter, all the 20 cats were already gone.

Mayo claimed that the cats were released by the barangay captain.

She clarified that it was she who brought the food into the cage during her visits.

In a separate interview with DZRH, Frani denied they neglected the cats at the shelter.

Frani said he was prompted to create an ordinance collecting stray animals and put them in a shelter as these were biting people in the streets.
