Incoming Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara met with Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) to discuss the most pressing issues in the education sector on Wednesday, July 10.
In an initiative made by TDC Chair Benjo Basas, 12 teacher-leaders coming from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (CALABARZON), and the National Capital Region (NCR), were able to amplify the concerns of fellow public school teachers.
TDC presented 10 primary points of discussion that teachers suggest to be prioritized by Angara during his term.
Among the issues presented are salary increase, improvement of the promotion system, removal of Results Based Performance Management System (RPMS), assigning additional personnel including Special Education teachers, proper arrangement of teachers' Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), providing protection for teachers, strengthening of the curriculum, equipment and facilities of schools, etc.
Sen. Angara responded with a positive note and vowed to put focus into these matters at hand once he assumes office.
Despite the positive initial impression of teachers with the secretary, TDC assured that they will remain vigilant about the policies and programs DepEd will implement under its new chief.
