

The prices of several essential goods in the country increased in May, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority.
The price of rice rose by P0.18 to P3 per kilogram in five trading centers, while the price of pork increased by P5 to P25 per kilogram. Onions also experienced a price increase, ranging from P2 to P35 per kilogram in 10 trading centers.
On the other hand, the price of galunggong (fish) decreased by P5 to P35 per kilogram. The price of brown sugar also decreased, with a range of P0.23 to nearly P5 per kilogram.
These changes reflect the average retail prices during the second phase of May 2023 compared to the first phase.
In the National Capital Region, the price of rice decreased by P0.02 per kilogram, while in Tuguegarao City and Butuan City, it dropped by P0.50 per kilogram. In Cebu City, the price went down by P2.08 per kilogram.
The price of pork with bones increased by varying amounts in five trading centers during the second phase of May 2023.
However, prices decreased in Calapan City, Cotabato City, and other locations during the same period.
The average retail prices of galunggong decreased in seven trading centers, while in some cities, they increased. The prices of red onions increased, except in Calapan City where it decreased by P12.50 per kilogram.
Mango carabao prices declined in seven trading centers but increased in Butuan City.
