Several progressive groups on Tuesday, February 6, marched to the Chinese Embassy in Makati to protest against China's harassment toward Filipino fisherfolks in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).
The protest was led by the fisherfolk group PAMALAKAYA. They were joined by Bayan Muna, Sinagbayan, Agham, Katribu, Sandugo, ACT-Teacher's party-list members, and other progressive groups.
"Atin ang Pilipinas! China Layas!" the protestors shouted.
Some placards brought by protestors ask China to respect the rights of Filipino fisherfolks to sail within the Philippine Economic Zone.

According to RH Christian Maño's report during Rapido Hataw Balita, protestors also appealed to the Marcos administration to not use China's harassment as a reason to heighten militarization in the country.
Former ACT-Teacher's Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio particularly called on the national government to resist the United States' control over building military sites.
Moreover, Tinio reportedly asked the Marcos government to not use the WPS issue as an excuse to purchase firearms and deploy additional forces.
The former congressman urged the government to allocate the fund instead to Filipino fisherfolks.
