The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has started an investigation into the cause behind the sudden collapse of its electric posts in Binondo, Manila.
Interviewed during DZRH’s Dos Por Dos on Friday, Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said they are still in the process of identifying what triggered the collapse.
“It will take a couple of days, kailangan namin makita ang CCTV cameras sa areas at kasama na rin siguro dyan ang investigation kung saan interviewhin natin ang mga nakakakita ng insidente,” he said.
The Meralco spokesperson assured that they will not conclude or end the probe without knowing the root cause.
Zaldarriaga said they immediately dispatched personnel for the repair and installment of new electric posts.
“Naitayo na yung mga poste at clearing na lang ang ginagawa namin ngayon,” he said.
Zaldarriaga guaranteed that the new electric posts are sturdy.
He then apologized to the public for the unfortunate incident and noted that this was not common.
“Rest assured na yung iba nating facilities all over our franchise area, ito ay talagang aksidente lang. It is something out of the ordinary. Hindi ito common. Kailangan namin malaman ang puno't dulo,” the Meralco spox said.
At around 1PM on Thursday, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported that multiple electric posts suddenly collapsed at the corner of Quintin Paredes St. and Ongpin St. Binondo, Manila.
The fallen electric posts stomped on eight vehicles including an electronic bike and bicycle.
Three individuals reportedly sustained minor injuries and were sent to the hospital for immediate aid.
