One of the volunteer groups of presidential candidate Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has switched its support to Vice President Leni Robredo, announcing its decision on Tuesday, April 12.
In a media briefing, Ikaw Muna (IM) Pilipinas convenor Tim Orbos said they have called for unity from other presidential bets to oppose the candidacy of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr.
But only Robredo and labor leader Leody De Guzman responded to their calls of unification.
"From our call for unity, we now shift to a call for unity for Vice President Leni Robredo in her campaign to be our president this 2022," Orbos said.
"The Vice President is consistently the second place in the past months and has been on a steady rise with the biggest increase as shown in the latest survey… She is now in the best position to win this for us," he added.
The group also changed its name to "IM Leni" to show its commitment to helping Robredo in the upcoming national elections.
The volunteer group, which was one of the first groups that urged Moreno to run for president, has around 200,000 members nationwide.
Earlier this, the Visayas and Zamboanga chapters of IM Pilipinas also announced a shift of support from Moreno to Robredo.
Moreno is currently trailing behind Robredo in the latest Pulse Asia survey released in March.
Robredo's voter preference rating was 24%, while Moreno's was 8%. They were both behind Marcos who got a 56% score in the survey.
