A price drop in red onions is expected in February due to the importation and harvest season, Samahang Industriya ng Agrikultura (SINAG) said on Monday, Jan 9.

"We hope, ‘no, na continuous ‘yong ani. Nitong Jan.15 to third week ang umpisa ng ani ng pulang sibuyas ‘tsaka puting sibuyas. Yong presyo siguro more or less nasa P200 ang presyo ng itong buwan na ito, baka by next month, bababa na ng ano, P150 to 170, yun ang tingin natin," SINAG President Rosendo So said.

The agricultural group is expecting to harvest over 8,000 to 9,000 metric tons of onion for January.

Meanwhile, when the imported onion arrived, the price of onion could possibly range from P120 to P150 per kilo — much lower than the current price of P400-P600 per kilo.
