President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and several Senators on Tuesday, Sept. 27, honored the five rescuers from Bulacan who died in the line of duty at the height of Super Typhoon Karding onslaught.
In a Facebook post, Marcos said he was deeply saddened to hear about the loss of the five good men.
“Our prayers go to the families of George Agustin, Troy Justin Agustin, Marby Bartolome, Narciso Calayag Jr., and Jerson Resurreccion,” he said.
“Their courage and bravery will live on in our memory,” Marcos added.
Meanwhile, Senators Lito Lapid, Robinhood Padilla, and Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva filed respective resolutions that paid tribute and commended the fallen five rescuers.
Villanueva stated in his penned Resolution 240 that the five rescuers acted with “incredible bravery and self-sacrifice and went above and beyond the call of duty to save lives of others at their cost of their own.”
“They were rescuers who also helped other local governments throughout the country in previous calamities and disasters,” he added.
For his part, Padilla sought to “posthumously accord highest commendation” to the five rescuers.
“The heroism and bravery shown by these five men, who sacrificed their lives to save their people, is an exemplary act worthy of praise and emulation and more importantly, an embodiment of dedication, courage, devotion to duty, and commitment to public service,” his Resolution 234 reads.
Under Resolution 235, Lapid said the five rescuers' courage, bravery, humanitarian spirit, and selflessness "should be held in the highest regard, paying the ultimate sacrifice in the name of duty."
Senators Imee Marcos, Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri have also filed their respective resolutions.
