Local government units (LGUs) were reminded by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday to be prudent in using government funds and assets, citing the scarcity of resources and limited fiscal space.
In his speech during the courtesy call of Manila local government officials, Marcos said the government, either local or national, must be very careful in deploying the resources.
He added that resources that have to be in very close coordination need to be maximized, saying that there will be less wastage of resources if there is better coordination.
The chief executive also underscored the importance of cooperation in the government units for collaboration in addressing present challenges which confront the nation, such as the rising cost of living and others.
Marcos said that his administration is determined in providing solutions to these issues, noting that the national government could hardly reach the grassroots without assistance from LGUs.
Meanwhile, he said that the meeting with local officials marks the beginning of efforts to “find ways, in the future, to work more closely” and address problems at the grassroots level.
The courtesy call was attended by Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor John Marvin Nieto; Representatives Ernesto Dionisio Jr. (1st District), Rolando Valeriano (2nd District), Joel Chua (3rd District), Edward Maceda (4th District), Erwin Tieng (5th District), Bienvenido Abante Jr. (6th District); Liga ng Mga Barangay -- Manila Chapter President Leilani Marie Lacuna, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President Daniel Dave Tan and members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
Manila is home to the seat of the Philippine government and 2 million Filipinos, according to Mayor Lacuna.
