President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Tuesday reappointed 10 out of the 12 Cabinet secretaries whose ad interim appointments failed to secure approval from the Commission on Appointments (CA).
In a Facebook post, the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS) said the reappointed officials are Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno, Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Erwin Tulfo, and Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.
The reappointed officials include Science and Technology Renato Umali Solidum Jr., Energy Secretary Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla, Migrant Workers Secretary Maria Susana Ople, National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, and Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar.
Lucas Bersamin, the new Executive Secretary replacing Victor Rodriguez, also took oath at the Malacañang Palace.
Meanwhile, two secretaries, namely Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles and Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan John Uy, were not included in the OPS post of reappointed officials.
Also not included in the list are the two commissioners namely Commission on Audit Chairman Jose Calida and Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Nelson Java Celis whose ad interim appointments were also bypassed by the CA.
The Palace has yet to issue any announcement on the fate of the four officials.
On Sept. 28, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, chair of the CA, said the panel failed to tackle the appointments due to a “lack of material time”.
