The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will return as attached agency to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) following the order from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Under Executive Order no. 5 signed by Marcos released on Friday, Sept. 16, TESDA will be under DOLE for policy and program coordination.
The order stated that the DOLE Secretary will serve as the chairperson of the TESDA board in accordance with Section 7 of R.A 7796 or the TESDA Act of 1994.
It said that the compensation and position structure of TESDA will remain consistent pursuant to R.A 7796.
"Nothing herein shall be construed to diminish or impair any unlawful compensation or benefits that are currently being enjoyed by incumbent officials and employees," the order reads.
The EO no. 5 will immediately take effect.
In 2018, former president Rodrigo Duterte signed executive order no. 67 directed the transfer of TESDA from DOLE to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
TESDA is a government agency that aims to provide relevant, accessible, and high-quality technical education and skills development to attain international competitiveness of Filipinos.
