President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday met with the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian to further strengthen the relationship between China and the Philippines.

Marcos said Huang visited the Malacañang Palace after he made a courtesy call.

“We welcomed the Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines, H.E. Huang Xilian, in a courtesy call yesterday,” the President wrote in a Facebook post.

“We are very grateful for the visit, and we look forward to further strengthening the relationship between China and the Philippines for the benefit of both our peoples,” he added.

Huang has also paid Marcos a courtesy visit after the election in May.

He handed the congratulatory note to Marcos on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping for winning as the 17th President of the Philippines.

In the note, Xi Jinping conveyed that China hopes “to bring the two countries' Relationship of Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation to new heights.”

Last July 6, the chief executive also met with Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wang Yi also extended the message of congratulatory and support from Xi Jinping.
