President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. met with Brussels Airport's chief executive officer (CEO) Arnaud Feist on December 13 to discuss the possibility of launching non-stop flights between Belgium and the Philippines.
Currently in Brussels, Marcos met with Feist on the sideline of his participation in the commemorative summit betwen the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the European Union (EU).
In a Facebook post, the Office of the President said that the meeting was about setting up direct flights from Brussels to Manila, allowing Filipinos, Europeans, and Southeast Asians to enjoy a "hassle-free" travel to and from the Philippines and Belgium.
To date, there has been no airline that offers direct flights between the Philippines ang Belgium.
After having a discussion with Feist, President Marcos is set to participate in the 10th ASEAN-EU Business Summit.
Meanwhile, Brussel Airport is one of Europe's largest airports which accommodated an estimated 9,357,221 passengers and transported more than 843,000 tons of cargo in 2021, said on the data release on its official website.
