The Philippine Embassy in Tokyo on Tuesday said that the working trip of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to Japan is expected to generate PHP 150 billion in investment pledges, which could employ 8,000 Filipinos.

In an interview, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene Garcia-Albano said several letters of intent and agreements "to significantly expand Japanese investments" in the Philippines will be signed during the trip.

She also stated that they anticipate significant returns in terms of new projects.

Marcos will also be delivering a keynote address to hundreds of top Japanese businessmen at a Philippine Business Opportunity seminar.

He will also meet with the chairs and top executives of companies that manufacture electronics, semiconductors, printers, and wiring harnesses at a roundtable meeting, according to Garcia-Albano.

She added that ways to ensure the success of these businesses in the Philippines will also be discussed at the meeting.

Marcos will be in Japan for an official business trip from February 8 to 12.

Prior to this, the DFA confirmed that the two countries would also sign seven key bilateral agreements covering infrastructure development, defense, agriculture, and information and communications technology.

The exchange of notes on the loan agreements for the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) from Malolos to Tutuban and the NSCR extension are among the documents to be signed.

This will involve approximately USD 3 billion in loans, which will be signed later by the Department of Finance.
