Prez Duterte OKs measure creating new districts in Caloocan, Bulacan
by Christhel Cuazon27 May 2021

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has signed into law a bill that creates three additional districts in Caloocan City less than a year before the 2022 national elections.

Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) 11545 dividing the first legislative district of Caloocan City into two districts and the creation of the city’s third legislative district.

Under the new law, the first legislative district will be composed of Barangays 1 to 4, Barangays 77 to 86, and Barangays 132 to 177.

Meanwhile, Barangays 178 to 188 form the city’s third legislative district.

Bulacan’s first district will be composed of Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong, Pulilan, Bulakan, and Malolos, while the second district will cover Baliuag, Bustos, and Plaridel.

The third district covers San Ildefonso, San Miguel, San Rafael, and Doña Remedios Trinidad, while the fourth district will include Obando, Marilao, and Meycauyayan city.

The fifth district will cover Guiguinto, Balagtas, Pandi, and Bocaue, while the sixth district will have Sta. Maria, Norzagaray and Angat.

The law, which was signed on May 26 but was only released to media on Wednesday, tasks the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to issue the necessary implementing rules and regulations within 30 days of the measure’s effectiveness.

This means each legislative district will be electing a representative in the House of Representatives in the May 2022 elections.

The law will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or in a newspaper of general circulation.
