The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) reminded the public, especially those planning to send balikbayan boxes this upcoming Christmas and New Year, to ship their packages early to ensure timely delivery to their families in the Philippines.
PPA General Manager Jay Santiago mentioned that under normal circumstances, it takes about 45 days for such shipments to arrive in the country.
However, due to the expected high volume of cargo during the Christmas season, these shipments may take longer and are most likely to arrive in February.
Santiago further explained that the Bureau of Customs (BOC) processes the balikbayan boxes, conducting inspections and clearing them. He advised the public to coordinate with the BOC if they have any concerns regarding the door-to-door services or forwarders they have engaged to clarify any issues.
The PPA also advised the public to ensure that their balikbayan boxes are properly sealed and do not contain prohibited items to avoid issues during customs inspection and prevent delays.
Santiago also warned the public to be cautious of scammers who take advantage of senders by fraudulently asking for money for their shipments.
