A power outage hit northern portion of of Cagayan province amidst the heavy rain and strong wind brought by Super Typhoon Goring.

Interviewed during DZRH’s Huntahan on Sunday, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Ruelie Rapsing said District 1 and District 2 in the northern portion of Cagayan have been experiencing power outages since Saturday.

“Ongoing pa rin yung restoration ng CAGELCO [Cagayan 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc.]. Hinihintay na lang po na matapos na lahat na ma-restore sa mga bayan,” he said.

Rapsing noted that the southern portion of Cagayan has yet to experience electric interruption.

In an advisory posted at 12:49 PM on Saturday, CAGELCO announced the unscheduled power interruption in Cagayan and Apayao amidst Goring-induced rains and winds.

The affected areas in Cagayan are the Municipalities of Aparri West, Dammang-Camalaniugan, Ballesteros, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Lasam, and Allacapan.

Also impacted are the Municipalities of Luna, Flora, Pudtol, Sta. Marcela, Calanasan (Sta. Elena and Sta. Filomena).

According to the PDRRMO Cagayan Chief, several municipalities have started the preemptive evacuation.

“Most of them, [dinala sa] barangay halls, merong municipal gymnasium, and some of them are staying with their relatives,” Rapsing added.

He assured that food and non-food items from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office are on standby for distribution.

As of 11 AM on Sunday, PAGASA hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 in the eastern portion of mainland Cagayan, including Peñablanca, Baggao, Gattaran, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Santa Ana, Enrile, Tuguegarao City.

The center of the eye of the super typhoon Goring was last tracked 95 kilometers east northeast of Casiguran, Aurora, and is accelerating south southwestward at the speed of 10 km per hour.

Goring is expected to emerge over the Taiwan Strait and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday, September 1.
