The Bangsamoro Government joined on Tuesday the global Catholic community on Tuesday in mourning the passing of Pope Francis.
"We in the Bangsamoro Government, extend our deepest condolences to the Catholic Church, our Catholic residents in the region, and to all who mourn the loss of Pope Francis," the official statement of the Bangsamoro Government read.
"The news of his passing brings profound sadness as Pope Francis was a beacon of hope and a tireless advocate for peace, justice, and interfaith dialogue," the statement added.
The government highlighted Pope Francis’ enduring commitment to peace and justice, citing his relentless and heartfelt appeals to end the violence in the Middle East, particularly in light of the ongoing "atrocities" in Palestine.
Moreover, the Bangsamoro Government remembered the Holy Father as a “source of moral clarity,” noting his persistent advocacy for peace and his appeals to global leaders to resolve conflicts without violence.
"These were not mere pronouncements, but a call to action and a reminder of our shared humanity," the statement further stated.
"In this time of mourning, we stand in solidarity with our Christian brothers and sisters, and we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a society where peace and mutual respect are the cornerstones of our existence," it added.
On Monday, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, announced the passing of Pope Francis. The pontiff was 88 years old.
In the weeks leading up to his passing, Pope Francis spent nearly 40 days confined at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic, where he was treated for double pneumonia.
