After the fatal bombing that happened in Mindanao State University’s (MSU) gymnasium in Marawi City on Sunday morning, Dec. 3, which led to four deaths, Pope Francis offered and extended prayers for the bereaved family and appealed to everyone to overcome every evil with good.
Based on Vatican News's article published on its officail website, Pope Francis relayed his message via Telegram to Marawi Bishop Edwin dela Peña Y Ango.
"In a telegram addressed to Bishop Edwin de la Peña Y Angot, Pope Francis added that he was "Deeply saddened to be informed of the injuries and loss of life caused by the bombing"," the article reads.
"The message, signed by Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, continues by noting that "His Holiness Pope Francis asks you to convey his spiritual closeness to all affected by this tragedy"," it added.
On his social media platform “X,” the Pope sent his prayers for the victims, saying that he is spiritually close to the families and the people of Mindanao.
I wish to assure my prayer for the victims of the attack that occurred this morning in the Philippines, where a bomb exploded during Mass. I am close to the families and the people of Mindanao, who have already suffered so much.

At around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, an explosion happened at MSU's Dimaporo Gymnasium, injuring 50 attendees, including students and faculty members, who attended the worship service.
