Politicians are outraged over the “barbaric act” done against a dog named Tiktok from Negros Occidental.

The social media post by a non-profit organization on Monday gained attention after it said that a dog was shot five times with an arrow, and had been suffering in pain since Sunday. They furthered that the dog was left “helpless, struggling, and in desperate need of care.”

A few days after the post was published, a P10,000 reward was put up by the town’s Mayor Gerry Rojas.

In a Facebook post, the mayor said that he condemned the act of “abject cruelty and cowardice against the innocent dog” in their community. Rojas stated that such barbaric behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the true values of the community.

“I will give a reward of ten thousand pesos (PHP 10,000) to whoever can pinpoint/identify the perpetrators of such a cruel act. I am likewise offering legal services in order to fully prosecute the perpetrators,” Mayor Rojas stated.

“Thank you so much to the group of BACH PROJECT PH for rescuing the innocent dog,” he added.

Meanwhile, Senator Grace Poe was enraged by the barbaric act done against the innocent animal. In a press release on Wednesday, the senator said that cruelty to an innocent creature has no place in civilized society.

“Such cruelty to an innocent creature has no place in our civilized society. What will stop the perpetrators from shooting humans next time?” she questioned.

Poe called on the residents in the area to help the local government unit (LGU) and animal welfare groups to find the individuals responsible for harming Tiktok.

She emphasized that those who would be found liable deserve to be punished under the law.

“The disturbing incident should prompt us to pass the revised Animal Welfare Act that we are pushing to put more teeth in the current law and capacitate the barangay to be more responsive to cases of animal cruelty and neglect,” Poe highlighted.

“There is still time to pass this when Congress returns to session and we hope our colleagues will not let pass this chance to do a compassionate act,” she said in closing.

In a subsequent Facebook post by BACH Project PH, they clarified that Tiktok was unable to run after the first shot because he was found trapped with a wire around his neck. The organization emphasized how they had to use pliers to cut the wires off because of how tight it was.
