Militant Group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan or Bayan Muna muna staged a protest along Recto Avenue on Monday over former President Rodrigo Duterte's arrest.

In a report by RH 29 Boy Gonzales, the group initiated a protest to call for the arrest of the officials–particularly the generals– involved in the Oplan Tokhang during former President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.

According to the group’s Secretary General Raymond Palatino, they want the said officials to be held accountable for their actions during the onset of the war on drugs campaign.

However, before the group reached Mendiola Street, officers from the Manila Police District (MPD) had already barricaded the road. The report mentioned that protests from various groups had been going on for days.

Bayan Muna also called for the country to be a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) anew, highlighting its anniversary of withdrawing from the International Court.

Due to the event, the roads along Recto Avenue were temporarily closed. The report mentioned the roads from Loyola Street to Mendiola had been closed for over half an hour due to the protest. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes.

According to the MPD, other groups also participated in the protest. However, the number of policemen deployed in the area outnumbered the protesters.
