Comedienne Pokwang has turned to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for help in tracing a con artist who used her home address for a staycation scam.
In an interview, the star said the scammer had posted enticing pictures of a fake resort and would give her address in Antipolo to victims upon receiving a downpayment.
In a Facebook post, one victim attested to paying ₱7,500, half the total price for the booking, in advance. Even then, the scammer insisted the victim pay in full.
Pokwang recounted that would-be staycationers had knocked on her door and asked to check in. Beginning in December, she said there would be days when three to as many as five unsuspecting guests would show up.
She has put up a sign warning potential victims about the scam. The actress shared that she is scared for her family, who have been put at risk, and plans to sue the suspect.
NBI Cybercrime Division Executive Officer Vanessa Asuncion cautioned against fraudsters online and urged netizens to make staycation arrangements on “regulated” platforms and to conduct an ocular of the location.
