POGO clinic busted
by Jim Fernandez07 July 2024

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) raided an illegal clinic in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City, which is suspected to have served as a shelter for Chinese POGO workers, on Saturday, July 6.

The clinic was not registered with the Department of Health (DOH), was found to have Chinese medicines not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is furthermore allegedly linked to an illegal POGO hub in the CALABARZON region.

The NBI apprehended four Chinese patients and seven Filipino staff, two of whom were doctors. The staff claimed to have no knowledge of the clinic being connected to POGO work.

"Puro ang sagot nila ay wala silang alam dito, ang mga pasyente daw nila ay Pilipino. Pero talagang during our surveillance, nagke-cater lamang sila sa Chinese," NBI Director Jaime Santiago said.

("All they answer is that they know nothing about this, they say their patients are Filipino. But actually, in our surveillance, they only cater to Chinese.")

A patient said their doctor was Chinese as well, and is believed to be one of the two Chinese nationals to have evaded authorities. NBI CALABARZON Regional Director Eric Mercado reported they had jumped over fences, and into alleys and roofs.

The suspects are now under investigation in the NBI's headquarters.
