Senator Grace Poe on Tuesday said the issue of bed bug or surot infestation at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is not isolated to the country as foreign countries also experience it too.
"That’s an issue [in] other countries as well. In France, train stations and some hotel rooms are affected. There is an increasing infestation problem," Poe told reporters in a message on Thursday.
Poe's statement comes after two Facebook post showing the alleged bed bugs or surot found in the steel and rattan chairs in NAIA terminals went viral on social media.
Manila International Airport has since apologized for the incident and removed the seats infested by the bed bugs.
The senator, who heads the Senate panel on public services, urged NAIA "to make it a practice to regularly check disinfect and thoroughly clean facilities."
“Cleaning and disinfecting should be a standard operating procedure, not just during a virus outbreak or infestation," she continued.
