The Philippine National Railways (PNR) announced on Thursday that it opened its new route from Calamba City in Laguna to Lucena City in Quezon, and vice versa.
In a statement, the PNR management said it is now ready to cater to commuters coming from Calamba, San Pablo, and Lucena.
“Aside from the comfort that it will offer to commuters, the reopened line is expected to have a shorter travel time from Lucena, San Pablo, and Calamba, and vice versa,” it added.
With this new commuter route, the running time from Lucena to Calamba will take two hours and 33 minutes, while from Lucena to San Pablo takes one hour and 32 minutes.
According to the railway management, the morning trip from Lucena station is scheduled to depart at 4:50 am, while the last trip from Calamba will be at 6:30 pm.
It will have nine makeshift stops along Pansol, Masili, Los Banos, College, IRRI, Tiaong (Lalig), Candelaria, Lutucan, and Sariaya.
The minimum fare for the Lucena to San Pablo trip is Php 15 and for Lucena to Calamba trip is Php 20.
The PNR management said the first trip of the PNR was launched at 6:30 pm on Thursday after President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. witnessed the signing of four North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) projects.
“This railway will offer safe, affordable, convenient, and comfortable transport to Filipinos while accelerating the country’s economic rebound,” transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said.
