The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that former Sen. Leila De Lima remains safe aftr she was taken hostage on Sunday, October 9, at the PNP Custodial Center inside Camp Crame in Quezon City.
PNP said that three inmates, identified as Arnel Cabintoy, Idang Susukan and Feliciano Sulayao Jr. attempted to escape from the custodial center and stabbed one police officer.
Sulayao took De Lima as hostage after a responding police officer shot Cabintory and Susukan.
Members of the PNP-Special Action Force responded to the incident and attempted to negotiate with the remaining inmate.
"Since the situation is escalating, the tactical team engaged Sulayao and he was neutralized," the PNP - Public Information Office said in a statement.
"Senator de Lima is now safe while the police officer who was stabbed was rushed to the hospital for treatment," the national police agency added.
PNP has launched an investigation on the incident as well as a review on the security protocols inside the PNP Custodial.
