PNP warns protesters against hurting cops amid SONA 2024
by Mary Antalan22 July 2024

The Philippine National Police (PNP) issued a stern warning to protesters against harming police officers during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s third State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 22.

In an ambush interview, PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil emphasized that while they will exercise maximum tolerance, there are limits.

"We will exercise maximum tolerance, but once our police officers are harmed, that tolerance ends. If protesters complain when they are hurt, why shouldn't we complain when we are hurt? We will file cases!" Marbil stated.

The PNP Chief assured that officers guarding the SONA would also ensure minimal disruption to vehicular traffic.

Meanwhile, Quezon City Police District chief Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan reported no identified threats as of the latest update.

"We have been preparing for the SONA for two months, continuously gathering intelligence information," Maranan added.

The National Capital Region Police Office deployed 23,000 officers and has been on full alert since Sunday.

A prohibition on firearms is enforced until 11:59 p.m., whereas the local government has implemented a ban on alcohol from 12:01 a.m. until 6 p.m.
