The Philippine National Police - Civil Security Group (PNP-CSG) will conduct an independent investigation into the viral Facebook post wherein a security guard of SM North EDSA was caught unmercifully throwing a puppy off a footbridge in Quezon City.
"This Office is currently conducting a thorough investigation into this matter and we have called the attention of the Private Security Agency who deployed the said Security Guard," the PNP-CSG said in a statement dated July 12 abd released Thursday.
It added that it will also look into the extent of the administrative culpability of the security guard and the private security agency he is working for.
Once proven that the aforementioned parties committed any violations, PNP-CSG said it will file a necessary administrative complaint and revoke their licenses.
"The PNP condemns all acts of cruelty and there is no place of such acts in this civilized society," it underscored.
The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) said that it will file a case against the mall security guard with the help of the witnesses.
On Tuesday, the Facebook post of netizen Janine Santos went viral as she narrated how the mall security guard tossed the puppy off an overpass outside the mall to drive the children away from their premises.
The puppy was declared dead on arrival in the veterinary clinic it was brought.
The management of SM North EDSA dismissed the security guard from his post.
