The Philippine National Police (PNP) will look into the alleged visits made by suspected con artist Mary Ann Maslog to the PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City, to meet with dismissed Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban, Tarlac.
This action comes in response to a statement made during a recent Senate hearing that revealed a link to Guo's arrest in Indonesia.
According to PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo, former intelligence chief PBGen. Romeo Macapaz admitted that he accompanied Maslog to the Custodial Center to extract information from Guo. However, Macapaz has distanced himself from Maslog's alleged second visit to the custodial facility.
Fajardo stressed that only legal counsel, spiritual leaders, or family members are allowed to visit Guo in detention.
An investigation will be launched to ascertain whether any protocols were breached when Macapaz brought Maslog, accompanied by Guo's lawyer, Atty. Stephen David, to the facility.
"Supposedly ay mga lawyers lamang po at mga personal physician, and even spiritual advisers po ng mga naka-detain po diyan so it was admitted no less than by Gen. Macapaz yesterday that he was with the lawyer of Alice Guo and Ms. Maslog, on the first time na pag-visit po," Fajardo said during a press briefing on October 9.
"So titignan po natin 'yan kung ano po 'yung naging sadya," she added.
The official asserted that the initial discussions held within the custodial facility cannot be easily disclosed, as Macapaz indicated that they pertain to national security.
Earlier, Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa expressed his outrage, accusing Maslog of attempting to pressure Guo into signing an affidavit that would tie him and former President Rodrigo Duterte to the illegal operations of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country.
Maslog appeared at the Senate hearing on October 8 nd is presently in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
