The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deploying 11,000 personnel nationwide to ensure the safety of the opening of face-to-face classes in public schools on August 29.
In a briefing in Camp Crame on Monday, PNP spokesperson Jean Fajardo said the operational guidelines of Oplan Balik Eskwela for School Year 2023-2024 have been disseminated among personnel.
“At binigyan ng direktiba yung mga line units na this early ay makipag-ugnayan sila sa mga eskwelahan na malapit sa kanila at within their respective unit of jurisdiction para kunin din ang kanilang suggestion to further improve yung mga ilalatag na security natin sa pagbubukas ng klase at ofcourse, sa whoe duration of the school year,” she added.
Fajardo said the PNP will also strengthen police visibility around schools through the conduct of foot and mobile patrols.
In addition, a public awareness camaign that aims to instruct parents and children on how to stay out of crime will be launched.
Earlier, the DepEd announced that the opening of the Academic Year 2023-2024 in public schools is set for August 29.
Private schools may open classes on any date starting "the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August," pursuant to Republic Act No. 11480, also known as An Act to lengthen the school calendar from 200 days to not more than two hundred twenty 220 class days.
