The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured that today's Security Sector Command Conference at Camp Crame, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., is not a "loyalty check."
According to PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo, this is the third time the President will preside over a police command conference. However, Fajardo assured that this would not serve as a "loyalty check" amid political issues in the country.
She further added that the meeting had been scheduled long ago and was aligned with President Marcos' availability.
Fajardo stated that the security sector is set to discuss the country's situation, including internal security threats, updates on investigations—particularly high-profile cases—crime statistics, and preparations for the upcoming election period.
Following the busy holiday season, the election calendar is officially set to kick off on January 12.
Aside from the President and senior PNP leaders, the meeting will also include representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), led by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr.
The peace and order situation in the country is anticipated to be reviewed, along with the police and military's strategies to fight insurgency.
Security arrangements for key celebrations, including Christmas, New Year, and the Feast of the Black Nazarene in January 2025, are expected to be discussed.
Moreover, the PNP headquarters was placed on early lockdown in preparation for the said meeting.
Before the command conference, the joint National and Regional Peace and Order Council Meeting took place, with the President in attendance.
Alongside senior PNP and AFP officials, local government representatives, academe members, religious leaders, and other stakeholders also participated in the meeting.
The discussion covered a range of issues, including insurgency, criminal activities, and public safety.
