The Philippine National Police (PNP) has revoked the gun permit of the former police officer who was caught in the act of assaulting and threatening a cyclist with a firearm near Welcome Rotonda in Quezon City.
In a press release issued on Sunday, PNP Civil Security Group (PNP-CSG) acting director Benjamin Silo Jr. said the License To Own and Possess Firearm (LTOPF), Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR), and Firearm Registration (FR) of the ex-cop, identified as Wilfredo Gonzales, has been canceled.
"As a reminder to all licensed citizens, it is of utmost importance to be responsible gun owners at all times," he said.
Silo also reminded that possession and ownership of firearms are privileges and not absolute rights.
"The PNP emphasizes the significance of responsible gun ownership in creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens," he added.
The PNP-CSG acting director said they will continue to implement measures to maintain the integrity of the licensure system and ensure the safety of the citizens.
In a video statement on Monday, the PNP-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO) said it has confiscated the three caliber 45 under Gonzales' name.
The involved driver first surrendered his 9MM gun that he used in threatening the cyclist.
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has already issued a show cause order (SCO) against Gonzales.
LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said the LTO-NCR found that the involved car driver was not the registered owner of the red sedan vehicle.
Meanwhile, lawyer Raymond Fortun, who was the first to brought up the incident, said they will file a complaint before the LTO for the suspension of Gonzales's driver’s license.
He said they may likewise push to file another complaint against the driver once they found out that he is a public official.
