The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported 29 incidents of election-related violence in connection with this year's upcoming midterm elections, according to Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
In an ambush interview with the media on Monday, COMELEC Chairman George Erwin Garcia stated that the data from cases between October and March had been validated by the PNP.
"Sa kasalukuyan, base sa kanilang datos, mula October hanggang ngayong March 1 ay 29 election-related violence ang nakalap na nila," said Garcia.
However, the said number does not account for the ambush on the convoy of a mayoral candidate in Abra, which left two people dead, nor the shootings in Lanao del Sur.
