The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed readiness to provide assistance if called upon once Mary Jane Veloso returns to the country.

PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo said they are awaiting coordination from the designated government agencies in both Indonesia and the Philippines.

“The PNP is ready to provide for any assistance na i-rerequire po sa atin ng concerned government agency po,” Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday.

Moreover, the security that the PNP will provide for Veloso is already in place, should it be needed.

The convicted OFW, who spent 14 years on death row in Indonesia, is set to return home as part of an agreement between the Philippines and Indonesia.

Veloso was imprisoned and sentenced to death after 2.6 kilograms of heroin were discovered in her suitcase in 2010.

As of now, the Philippines and Indonesia have not set a date for Veloso's return nor disclosed the arrangements for her detention upon arrival.

On November 20, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that Veloso is finally set to return to the Philippines after more than a decade of negotiations and appeals to the Indonesian government.
