The Philippine National Police (PNP) expressed its readiness to cooperate with the Department of Justice (DOJ) in the investigation of high-profile cases from the previous administration's anti-illegal drugs campaign under former President Rodrigo Duterte.

“On the part of the PNP, we have always been supportive of the efforts of the DOJ to conduct investigation po," PNP Spokesperson PBGen. Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday.

The PNP spokesperson made the assurance after the DOJ formed a separate task force to investigate reports of extrajudicial killings.

According to Fajardo, this demonstrates the active collaboration between the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which are currently investigating the murder of PCSO Board Secretary Wesley Barayuga.

Fajardo further stated that the documents being gathered are nearly complete, and a murder case will soon be filed against former PCSO General Manager Royina Garma and former NAPOLCOM Commissioner Edilberto Leonardo.

“This is an indication that the PNP will support and closely coordinate po with the NBI and DOJ in their efforts to come up with a credible investigation with respect to the sensational cases mentioned during the Congressional hearing," said Fajardo.

"And of course for including those questionable police operation that resulted in the death of so many," she added.

The PNP previously assured that there would be no "sacred cows" in the investigation, in line with PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Marbil's directive.

This applies regardless of who is affected, whether the individual holds a high position or not, as long as the evidence supports the filing of charges against those found liable for the questionable deaths.
