The Philippine National Police (PNP) has initiated security preparations for the upcoming 19th Edition of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023.

Taking place from August 25 to September 10, this highly anticipated event has prompted the PNP to ensure the safety and security of all participants, officials, and spectators.

PNP Chief General Benjamin Acorda Jr., highlighted that securing major events, including international sports competitions, is not new to the police force.

Drawing from the successful implementation of security strategies during past events such as the 2015 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, 2015 Papal Visit, 2017 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit, and the 2020 Miss Universe Pageant, the PNP aims to replicate their effective approach for the FIBA World Cup.

“We will be implementing our tried and tested major events security framework for FIBA World Cup. The PNP is fully committed to the success of this prestigious international event. We are working closely with our partner agencies to deliver a memorable experience for everyone involved,” stated Acorda.

The Security Task Force (STF) FBWC 2023 has been established as the primary body responsible for executing security operations and other related public safety services during the basketball event. With an estimated 3,253 participating FBWC customer groups, maintaining a secure environment is crucial for the tournament's success.

The 19th Edition of FIBA's flagship event, the FBWC 2023, will be jointly hosted by three Asian nations: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

The Philippines will specifically welcome teams from Africa, Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe. The opening ceremony and the initial matches between Angola vs Italy and Philippines vs Dominican Republic will take place at the Philippine Arena in Ciudad de Victoria, Sta Maria, Bulacan.
