The Philippine National Police (PNP) officially launched two new committees—the Joint Anti-Kidnapping Action Committee (JAKAC) and the Joint Anti-Fake News Action Committee (JAFNAC).

Deputy Chief for Investigation (TDCI) PLt. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo will lead the JAKAC, which is tasked with identifying, suppressing, and neutralizing organized kidnap-for-hire operations in the country.

JAKAC was established following the successful resolution of the kidnapping and murder of a Filipino-Chinese businessman and his driver—a crime believed to have been planned and led by a Chinese national.

PNP Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil lauded the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG), led by PLt. Gen. Okubo, citing its rapid coordination and effective efforts in resolving the case.

The PNP has taken three suspects into custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two.

Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to dismantling syndicates engaged in kidnap-for-hire activities.

While kidnapping remains a major concern, authorities also face the growing challenge of curbing the spread of fake news.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief for Operations (TDCO) PLt. Gen. Robert Rodriguez will head the JAFNAC, which aims to combat the growing problem of misinformation and disinformation among the public.

The committee will focus on strengthening coordination and developing more effective strategies across all communication platforms.

Over the past few weeks, social media has been abuzz with reports of alleged kidnappings involving several high-profile businessmen. However, the PNP swiftly denied the claims, stating they had no factual basis.

PNP Chief Marbil stressed that fake news is a serious issue, capable of inciting fear, disorder, and false beliefs. He pledged to intensify efforts to combat its spread.

He noted that these are more than just newly established committees—they represent decisive action against modern threats.

"Hindi lamang ito mga bagong komite. Ito ay mga konkretong hakbang upang tugunan ang mga modernong banta. Mula sa mga kidnap-for-hire syndicates hanggang sa mga fake news campaigns—kumikilos ang PNP para protektahan ang mamamayan," PNP Chief PGen. Marbil stated.
