The Philippine National Police (PNP) will add 600 more cops to its ranks in Metro Manila in response to the recent rise in shooting incidents.
PNP Spokesperson Pcol. Jean Fajardo announced that police on administrative duties in Camp Crame were stationed at the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to lend their efforts in securing the region.
The deployment was ordered by PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil following a string of shootings, such as the May 28 road rage incident in which an elderly family driver died after having been shot by a businessman in Makati City.
One may recall that on May 24, a motorcycle rider ambushed and opened fire at Land Transportation Office (LTO) registration division chief Mercedita Gutierrez. The assailant, Danny Bulado, has been detained and charged with murder.
The PNP has also enlisted the assistance of MyTaxi.PH Inc., which handles Grab, and We-Load Transcargo Corp. for Move It Philippines, a motorcycle ride-hailing app. The collaboration centers on commuter, motorist, and goods transportation safety.
