The Philippine National Police (PNP) has created a special task force that will set its focus on dismantling POGO hubs in the country, as a way to combat illegal activities and crime affiliated to it.
The announcement and launch of Special Task Force Skimmer was held on Saturday during the ‘Interfacing on Peace and Order and Public Safety Issues’ event at the Camp BGen. Rafael T. Crame in Quezon City.
PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil mentioned that with this initiative, the Special Task Force “SKIMMER” will be coordinating with different government agencies to address the present problem.
PNP deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Michael John Dubria will be leading the task force together with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) as the lead unit.
Among the functions of the task force is conducting intelligence case build up, formulating case operation plans, strengthening barangay information network, and to establishing interoperability with other law enforcement and concerned government agencies.
The task force was formed following the order from the Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. that required local government units (LGU) to make an inventory of POGO in their jurisdictions.
