The Philippine National Police (PNP) formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to fast-track the probe into the shooting of Bicolano broadcaster Noel Bellen Samar.
RH Edniel Parrosa reported in DZRH's Balansyado that Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has directed the Police Regional Office 5 (PRO-5) to focus on building a strong case and coordinating all necessary investigative efforts related to the incident.
Nartatez said that police investigators are already pursuing leads regarding the possible motives behind the attack on the 54-year-old radio announcer, which occurred in Guinobatan, Albay.
Authorities believe the incident may be connected to both personal and professional aspects of the victim’s life.
Samar sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen and was rushed to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The unidentified gunman remains at large.
Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting backtracking operations to identify and locate the suspect.
Nartatez emphasized that violence against members of the media has no place in society, assuring the public that the PNP is committed to ensuring justice for the victim and his family.
