The Philippine National Police (PNP) directed all of its regional offices to form a platoon or company-size quick reaction units that would respond to overcrowding at vaccination centers.

PNP Chief PGen. Guillermo Eleazar gave the order after people flocked at vaccination centers in Metro Manila on Thursday, August 5, a day before the region reverted to enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status.

Eleazar stressed the need for the quick response units to be prepared for deployment on short notice and coordinate with local government units on the possible cancellation of vaccination activities due to the rowdiness of the crowd.

The PNP chief also directed all police commanders to coordinate with local chief executive regarding the vaccination systems and processes in their area of jurisdiction during the two-week long enhanced community quarantine.

Mahalagang malaman ng ating kapulisan ang sistema at paraan ng bakunahan sa bawat lugar para makapaghanda ng sapat na bilang ng personnel na magbabantay dito,” Eleazar said in a statement.

The National Capital Region reverts to the strictest community quarantine classification starting Friday, August 6, in order to prevent a possible surge of new 2019 Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) infections due to the Delta variant.

The implementation of enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila will last until August 20.
