Philippine National Police chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. has spoken out against members of extremist groups demonstrating as the PNP prepares for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA) next month, calling out for respect for uniforms.
At a press conference, Acorda said demonstrators should avoid throwing paint at police officers.
He reiterated that demonstrators would maintain the highest level of tolerance and respect their right to freedom of expression within the law, and police uniforms were expensive, so demonstrators listened to his plea, saying it shouldn't be tilted.
Acorda stated that he would appreciate it if the protesters would listen to it as the police would pay to buy new uniforms and respect the uniforms themselves.
In the meantime, the PNP will utilize Human Rights Affairs Department personnel to monitor possible human rights abuses committed by both police and protesters during SONA.
