Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Marbil strongly stated that he would block the promotions of police officers involved in election interference.
According to Edniel Parrosa's Magandang Umaga Pilipinas report on Tuesday, police officers who interfere in the election could face consequences ranging from being denied promotions to outright dismissal from the service, depending on the severity of their actions.
Marbil also vowed to intensify efforts to identify police officers who might be used by politicians, particularly as the election period approaches 100 days before February.
Meanwhile, Marbil clarified that they have not yet monitored any police officers engaging in such activities.
He also expressed his intention to collaborate with the National Security Council (NSC) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) to identify personnel who are not maintaining a neutral stance.
"Pero we will put in the record kaya nga mag-uusap kami ng NSA with the NICA para once and for all pagka-nakalagay ka rito, hindi ka na pwedeng mapromote. We will make sure you will not be promoted pag nagamit ka dito," he said.
"Gusto namin talaga, respetuhin ng tao na ang PNP, very apolitical kami," he added.
Earlier, the PNP withdrew a total of 674 police escorts assigned to politicians and private individuals running in the election.
The PNP Chief has yet to comment on President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s statement about possibly extending his term.
