Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General (PGen) Dionardo Carlos has revealed he tested positive for COVID-19, saying that it is likely the Omicron variant.
"This is to confirm that I, PGen Dionardo Carlos, tested positive for COVID-19 virus (suspected Omicron variant)," he told reporters on Tuesday.
According to the PNP chief, he found out his condition after he subjected himself, his security, and staff to RT-PCR tests after reports that his personnel were suffering from fever and chills.
"Unfortunately, I too, tested positive including my duty driver and aide who were with me in the van Sunday morning," he said.
The PNP chief said he experienced fever, chills, and sweating on Sunday evening.
However, only his back pain remained when Monday came.
Currently, the PNP chief shared that his body temperature is at 37.1 degrees Celsius. His lungs also remained clear, and he is not experiencing cough.
"I immediately informed SBG (Special Patrol Group) and SILG (Secretary of Interior and Local Government) of my status and was advised to rest," he said.
"I will consider this time that I'm taking my much needed Christmas and New Year's break."
The PNP reported on Tuesday 107 new infections of COVID-19, with active cases at 164.
