Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGen. Rommel Francisco Marbil stated that the extension of his term will enable him to concentrate and intensify efforts on the PNP's preparations for the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
In a statement on Thursday, the top cop expressed his gratitude to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the trust, confidence, and steadfast support he has received.
He assured President Marcos and the public that, with the extension, he will remain committed to upholding the PNP’s core values of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in service.
"With this extension, I am deeply honored and grateful for the trust, confidence, and unwavering support of our President. I assure him, and the entire Filipino nation, that I will remain steadfast in upholding the PNP’s commitment to serve with integrity, professionalism, and dedication," said Marbil.
"This extension allows me to focus and work harder on our preparations for the 2025 national and local elections, ensuring that we deliver peaceful, credible, fair, and honest elections," he added.
Meanwhile, in a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP Spokesperson and PRO-3 regional Director PBGen. Jean Fajardo stated that the entire force is committed to continuing the reforms initiated by Marbil.
"Ang buong PNP po, mga men and women of the PNP fully supports po ‘yung decision ng ating Pangulo na i-extend po ang termino ng ating Chief PNP," Fajardo stated.
Earlier, President Marcos extended Marbil’s term by four months, with the extension beginning tomorrow, February 7, the day he was due to retire.
On Wednesday, Marbil participated in signing a solidarity pact with leaders from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), reaffirming their commitment to ensuring the safety of the 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE) and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Parliamentary Election (BARMM PE).
